A Pakistan Inter-Services Public Relations note claimed that Pakistan has successfully test-fired “its long-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile Hatf VI (Shaheen II)” that is a two-staged solid fuel accurate nuclear capable missile with a range of 2000 kilometers. An advanced version has a potential range of 2,500 kilometers. The PR note said that the test had “outstanding results.”
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz witnessed the test at an undisclosed location and said that his country “will continue to pursue vigorously” their “security and energy needs from all sources including nuclear.” Aziz also claimed “Pakistan’s strategy pf credible minimum deterrence is fully in place and is a guarantee of peace in the region.”
India and Pakistan have a treaty that requires them to notify each other when they test ballistic missiles. However, cruise missiles are not included in this treaty.
