ISRO to Carry Experimental Satellites Free

In a very positive move, the Indian Space & Research Organization (ISRO) has invited proposals from Universities and students to create miniature, non-commercial, experimental, and scientific satellites that can be carried free. The ISRO makes a launch every six months and there is usually a small remnant unutilized capacity with every launch that can be used for experimental and scientific purposes.

Although ISRO wants strict adherence to its requirements and standards, it says that it will help in the design, implementation, instrumentation, quality control, testing, and integration. While there is no restriction on applications that can be developed, the ISRO is looking for atmospheric and near-space environment data.

So far, the ISRO has launched two satellites from Germany and one each from Korea and Belgium. Only Anna University has designed its own satellite (called Anusat) using ISRO's help.
