Interpol issued a new “red corner” notice declaring Dawood Ibrahim, prime accused in the 1994 Mumbai blasts as part of the global al Qaeda organization and listed two addresses in Karachi as his residences. The notice also contained details of Ibrahim’s 11 passports and 16 aliases and said that he is part of the 17 organization al Qaeda’s World Jihad Council that vowed to target Israel, the West, and India.
The Interpol issued this notice to its 184 member states and asked them to freeze his accounts, ban travel, and embargo on arms, as Ibrahim “is the subject of UN’s anti-terrorism sanctions.” Ibrahim has 8 passports issued to him from Mumbai, and one each from Pakistan, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). His Pakistani passport was issued on August 12, 1991 well before his planned attack of 1994 in Mumbai thus demonstrating strong terrorist ties even before the Babri incident of 1993. |
