Indian Altruism Helps China Master Software

A first of its kind, an Indo-Sino software research, training, and education facility to replicate the success of Bangalore in China has been launched near Chengdu, provincial capital of Sichuan. China has a very strong hardware base but is considered backward in software development.

China’s desire to replicate the Indian model comes from the rise of Indian software houses. With a market capitalization of USD 4 billion in 1999, Indian software companies are valued at USD 80 billion with an annual export of USD 15 billion. The Chengdu is aimed at replicating the Bangalore model in China.

Chinese software industry is considered to be one of the fastest growth sectors with an annual turnover valued at USD 48.75 billion with a growth rate of 40.3%. Software exports valued at USD 3.59 billion with a growth rate of USD 28.2%. China expects outsourcing from European Union and United States to increase by 50%.

The India-China Software Association is the organization promoting such activity in China and helping a competitor succeed.
