US UAV Fires on al Qaeda Targets in Pak

In a suspected Central Intelligence Agency directed attack, American unmanned drones fired missiles at Damadola, a village bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan. The village is said to be the stronghold of a pro-Taliban group shielding al Qaeda terrorists and wanting the implementation of Shariah law, a set rules depicted in the Koran. This attack was apparently aimed to kill the second-in-command of al Qaeda Ayman al Zawahiri. The CIA had used similar attacks to kill the number 3 man in Pakistan earlier but reports were inconclusive about whether Zawahiri was indeed killed in this attack. Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with the US-led forces in Afghanistan saying that the CIA acted on wrong information. However, a US military spokesperson has denied involvement saying that the US-led coalition force is not operating in that area. 18 people, including women and children, are said to have been killed in this attack. Pakistani intelligence officials say that bodies have been removed and DNA tests are being performed. There are no details on who is performing these tests and what these tests are supposed to prove. Pakistan is a key US ally fighting remnant al Qaeda terrorists and is under pressure to do more to capture and kill a Qaeda personnel with its territory.
