"Sony Ericsson to bring R&D work to India"

New Delhi: Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson is planning to shift a part of its research and development to India.
“We could set up a research and development facility in India,” a senior company official said today. The official said that the company was carrying out an assessment internally to determine if it was feasible to shift a part of research and development work to India.
“A lot will depend on the outcome of the assessment,” he said. At present all the company’s research work it done out is Sweden though the products are tailored for the different markets in close copperation with the company’s teams in these markets. Earlier, speaking to newspersons, general manager of Sony Erison’s India operations, Sudhin Mathur refused to comment on whether the company was planning to set up a manufacturing facility in India.
“At present our manufacturing facility in China is able to meet the Indian demand,” he said, adding the company’s marketshare in India was growing. The company is planning to unveil latest products across the entire range at the second Mobile Expo that would be held in Pragti Maidan here from October 21 to 24. He said the new products will exhibit convergence of technoligies in both entry level and the high end segment.
