(INSCRIPTION COLLECTED DURING THE YEAR 1908-09)

TELUGU CHOLAS

Vijayagandagopala

No. 329

(A. R. No. 311 of 1909)

Tirukkachchur, Chingleput Taluk, Chingleput District

North wall of the same Prakara.

Tribh Vijayagandagopaladeva : Year 28, Mithuna (Ani) ba. 5, Wednesday=1279 A.D., May 31.

This inscription is built in at the beginning, so a few letters at the beginning of each line are not available. 

It records the sale of the village comprising the block of Oddangadu, Sorantiruttu and Achariyantiruttu and forming a hamlet of Perumbedu in Maganur-nadu in Sengattuk-kottam in Jayangodasola-mandalam, by the ur of the same place, to two persons, one named Kulattulan Marippillai alias Sanattaraiyar of Dharmapuram in Surattur-nadu in the kottam (name lost), and the other named Aramalattar (Aramvalattar?) of the same place.  The details of the boundaries are given.  At the end of list of signatories representing the ur of Perumbedu, is also given.

Kuvam, Tiruvallore Taluk, Chingleput District

South wall of the central shrine in the Tirupurantakesvara temple.

Tribh Vijayagandagopaladeva : Year 5=1255-56 A. D.

This inscription is built in the middle.

It records a gift of a sandhi lamp to the temple of the god (name lost) of Kuvam alias Tiyagasamudranallur, by Vesali Madandan Pariseriyandal (?) who also endowed 10 panam for this purpose. This money was received by a number of Sivabrahmanas of the temple having right of worship there, such as Tavarasa-bhattan, his sons [Pon]nambalakkutta-bhattan and Tali-bhattan and Tiruvallanayaka-bhattan, Ulagaludaiyan[bhattan], and Porkoyil Nambi Somasridevan, all of whom had agreed to burn the lamp perpetually.

Kuvam, Tiruvallore Taluk, Chingleput District

South wall of the mandapa in front of the same shrine.

Tribh Vijayagandagopaladeva : Year 24=1274-75 A.D. 

This inscription records a gift of a sandhi lamp to the temple of the god Tiruvirkolamudaiyar of Kuvam alias Tiyagasamudranallu by Birama Andavan of the same place.  The gift was received by a number of Sivabrahmanas (names given) having right of worship in the temple, who had agreed to burn the sandhi lamp in the temple accordingly, from the month of Tai of the year quoted.

Kuvam, Tiruvallore Taluk, Chinglept District Same wall.

Tribh Vijayagandagopaladeva: Year 16=1266-67 A.D. 

This inscription records a gift of nanda lamp to the god of the temple of Tiruvirkolamudaiya nayanar of Kuvam alias Tiyagasamudranallu and an endowment of 30 Palankasu by Pichchan Manrula Velan of Kurumudi.  Several Sivabrahmanas whose names are specified had received the amount and had agreed to burn the lamp perpetually in the temple.

Kuvam, Tiruvallore Taluk, Chingleput District Same wall.

Tribh Vijayagandagopaladeva: Year 28=1278-79 A.D. 

This inscription records a gift of a sandhi lamp to the temple of the god Tiruvirkolamudaiya-nayanar of Kuvam alias Tiyagasamudranallur in Manavirkottam in Jayangondasola-mandalam by Kakku-nayakan alias Tennavan Vilupparaiyan Varantarum Perumal, a Desi-velan of Vaigavur in Urrukkattukkottam in the same mandalam. It is stated that the endowed a sum of 10 panam which was received by four Sivabrahmanas of the temple, viz.  Arsampillai, Tali-bhattan and Tiruvallamudaiyan-bhattan, all of Gautama-[gotra], who had agreed to burn the sandhi lamp from the month of Avani of the year quoted.

Kuvam, Tiruvallore Taluk, Chingleput District Same wall.

Tribh Viragndagopaladeva: Year 5=1296 A.D. (?) 

This inscription records a gift of a sandhi lamp to the temple of the god Tiruvirkolamudaiya-nayanar of Kuvam alias Tiyagasamudranallur, by a woman named Umaiyalvan, wife of Pandarankilan, Tiruvarangamudaiyan.  This gift was accepted by three people, whose names are given, who had agreed to carry out the object of the gift.
