Slab built into the wall (inner side), left of entrance into the

central shrine of the Sankarlinga temple Bhillama---A. D. 1187

The record is dated in the king’s  regnal year 3, Plavanga, Bhadrapada, Amavasya, Solar eclipse, Probably corresponding to A. D. 1187, September 4, which was a Friday. There was a solar eclipse on that day but the Kanya-sankramanahad occurred on The previous Friday.

The inscription records a gift of land and toll-income by Mayideva and others To Kotisamkaradeva of Nimbahura. Other gifts of money and lands in different Villages (specified) made by Gamgara Kannisetti and others, for the benefit of the Same temple, are also recorded.  

The inscription is published in Ep. Ind., Vol. XXVIII, pp. 94 ff.

This record is dated in the king’s year 2, Plavanga, Kartika, Paraima, Monday, regularly corresponding to A. D. 1187, October 19, Monday.

The inscription records a gift of land for a feeding house (satra) by Rechibhatt- Of agrahara Kalakere after purchasing it form Dandanayaka Vikramaditya, the prabhu of Kalakere. See No. 174 below and Introduction.

Slab leaning against the front wall of the temple called Mallappana-gudi

Vira-Narayana ( Bhillama) A. D. 1187

This record is dated in Saka 1109, king’s regnal year 2, Plavanga, Karttika, Purnima, Monday,regularly corresponding to A. D. 1187, October 19, Monday.  

The inscription records a gift of land by Rechi-bhatta of Kamme-vamsa, one of The Three Hundred Mahajanas of Kalkere included in Hagaritaga-nadu, after Purchasing it from Vikramanaka-dandadhipa, the prabhu of Asmatataka (I, e., Kalkere), for the feeding  house (satra) of the place when Mahamandalesvara Viunadevarasa was administering Hagaritage-nadu. The gift was made with the consent of the Mahaianas of Kalkere. The donor Rechibhatta is stated to be the son of Padmanabha-bhattopadhyaya and grandson of Nandyanavedi.

The record refers to the regnal year of Vira-Narayana who is identified with the Yadava king Bhillama on the ground that the Mahamandalesvara Viruparasa and Vikramanka dandadhipa are mentioned in other of this king.1

HIRE BEVINUR,INDI TALUK, BIJAPUR DISTRICT

Slab set up near the temple of Bhogalinga Bhillama-A. D. 1190

This record is dated Saka 1112 (nara-netra-Sasi-Soma-Indu), Sadharana, Sranvana, Purnima, Thursday, corresponding to A. D. 1190, July 18. The week-day was Wednesday, when the tithi ended at 72.

The inscription states that at the request of Siridevi, the wife of Boppana-nayaka, To observe kshitiruha-nompi, Dandanayaka Mayideva, the minister of the king, Planted a number of trees and established a charitu fair (dharma-santhe) in Beviner situated in Tardavadi 1000, in the presence of Mummuridandas and other of Thirty-six-villages  division. Boppana-nayaka was governing the division of Thirty-six village as a subordinate of Mayideva.

It also records a gift of land and house for the maintenance of the above Charties made to Bandarasa, the manneya of  Tarddavadi-1000 and to Boppana- Nayaka by Mayideva. Further gifts of trees to the temples of Taleyakavadeva, Revanesvara and Bhogesvara and also to Somanatha-pandita, the composer of the Record, are registered.

Pillar used as foot-step in the Kallesvara temple Bhillama—A. D. 1190

This badly damaged and worn out record is dated in the king’s regnal year 4, Sadharana, Kartika su. Purnima, Monday, Samkramana, regularly corresponding to A.D. 1190, October 15, Monday. There was, however, no samkramana on that day The inscription seems to record a gift for the worship of god Svayambhu Bijjalesvara.

CHURGII, INDI TALUK, BIJPUR DISTRICT

On a Nandi-pillar in front of the Hanuman temple Bhillama-A. D. 1190

This damaged record is dated in the king’s regnal year..., Sadharana Pushya Su. [1]1, Monday, Uttaryana-Samkranti. During the reign of Bhillama the cyclic Year Sadharana corresponded with Saka 1112. In that year, the details correspond To 1190 A. D., December 24, Monday.  The samkranti occurred on the following Wednesday.

The inscription states that Mahamandalesvara Vira-Bandugidevarasa  and Mahapradhana Mayideva-dandanayaka made a gift of the village Choraharige situated In the division (kampana) of Thirty-six village in Tardavadi Thousand for the Benefit of the temple of Kapilasiddha-Mallikarjunsa of Sonnalige which is called Abhinava Srisaila.

HIPPARAGI, SINDGI TALUK, BIJAPUR DISTRICT

Slab fixed into the wall in the temple of Kasilinga Bhillama—A. D. 1192

This record is dated Saka 1115, Paridhavi, Bhadrapada, da. Madhyashtaki, Manday, Kanya-samkramana. The Saka year given was current. The details correspond to A.D. 1192, August31, Monday, f.d.t., 14.  There was no Samkramana on that day.

The inscription registers the grant of the village Imgunige, at the request of Bammeya-nayaka, for the worship and offerings to god Kalideva at Hipparage by the King in conjunction with Pheyiya-sahani and Mahamandalesvara Gonarasa  of the Selara (Silahara) family and others to rajagurudeva of Bhujagavail-kula while  Sarvadhikari Malleya-Sahaniwas governing Tarddavadi-nadu. Also records other gifts to the same god by Mayideva-dandanayaka, the officer in charge of taxes, and by Brahmadeva-dandanayaka beaded by Devaparasa, The prabhu of Hipparige and Parisadeva.

Slab set up against the front wall of the Chavadi in Holageri [Bhillama]—(Date lost)

In this damaged and worn out record, the date-portion is lost.

The inscription record a gift of the village Mavuliganur for the benefit of the Temple of Bhogesvara at Pauthage by Bamdarasa of the Jlnutavahana Family who was administering Pauthage as a subordinate of the minister Mayideva. The gift was entrusted to Amaresvaradeva, the acharya of the temple. Mentions Bamdarasa’s subordinate tantrapala Bppana. The record gives a genealogical account of Bamdarasa and a description of the Place Pauthage.

KADLEVAD. SINDGI TALUK, BIJAPUR DISTRICT

Slab lying in the temple of Sivalinga Jaitugi—A. D. 1192

This record is dated Saka 1114, Paridhavi, Pushya, ba. 10, Sunday, Uttarayana- Samkranti. The date is irregular. The tithi given corresponds to A. D. 1192, December 21, when the week day was Thursday and the samkranti did not occur.

The inscription states that Mahapradhana Soyideva-dandanayaka who was in charge Of  melalke made a gift income from Kumbittage, a village in Kummasi-30 Included in Tarddavadi-1000division (kampana), to Satimayya, the acharya of Hiriya-matha of Svayambhu Somanathadeva, for the benefit of the temple of Manikesvara and for maintaining eight brahmapuris, etc.  

The king is stated to be ruling from Devagiri.

Broken stone built into the pile of the Lingayata matha [Jaitugi]—A. D. 1194

This badly damaged and effaced record is dated in Saka 1115, Pramadi, Magha, Monday, Sivraratri, regularly corresponding to A. D. 1194, February 21, Monday.

The inscription begins with a vachana of Kapilasiddha Mallikarjuna and records A gift of a village (name lost) for the worship of the god Kapilasiddha-Mallikarjuna of Sonnalige by Mayideva-Dannayaka (i.e.Dandanayaka).

Slab built into the left wall (outer) of the Ramesvara temple Jaitugi—A. D. 1196-97

This badly damaged and mutilated record is dated Saka1118. Nala, Monday, Solar eclipse (total), Uttarayana-samkranti. The month and the tithi are not given. The date is irregular. There was no solar eclipse in the given year. The Saka and the cyclic year correspond to A. D. 1196-97

The inscription refers to a chief (name lost) of the Jimutavahana family and to Sovaladevi and seems to record a gift.

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 2, Pingala, Ash adhe, su. 3, Saturday Corresponding to A. D. 1197, June 3. The weekday was, however, Friday.

The inscription records a grant of land for the benefit of the temple pf god Chandesvara by Ketagavunda and Mudrehasta Mallanna, a subordinate officer Of mahamandalesvara Lakshmideva and others.

This record is dated Saka 1121 (current), Kalayukta, Magha, ba. Amavasya, Monday. Solar eclipse, corresponding to A. D. 1199, January 28, Thursday, and not Monday.

The inscription records a gift of land for the worship and offerings to the temple Of Kalideva of Kesarpati by Mahapradhana, magara-murari Soyideva-nayaka.

This damaged record is dated in the king’s regnal year 11, Durmati, Pushya Su. 11, Monday, Uttarayana-samkranti, corresponding to A. D. 1201, December 23. The weekday was, however, Sunday.

The inscription begins with the vachana of Kapilaasiddha-Mallikarjuna and Records a gift for the benefit of the temple of Kapilasiddha-Mallikarjuna by Danda- Nayaka Sovadeva, Mayideva-nayaka and others.

KADLEVAD, SINDGI TALUK, BIJAPUR DISTRICT

Slab in the temple of Svamilinga Singhana—A. D. 1204

This record in Nagari characters and Kannada language is dated Saka 1127, Raktakshi Asvija, su. Purnima, Sunday, lunar eclipse, corresponding to A. D. 1204, October 10, Sunday, taking the Saka year to be current. There was a lunar eclipse On that day.

The inscription states that the king renewed the grant of certain villages for The worship and offerings of the god Svayambhi Somanatha at Kadalevada, in the Name and for the merit of Chiladevi, probably the queen of Singhana. The earlier Grant seems to be the same as the one referred to in the latter part of the inscription. It records a gift for the benefit of the same temple, by Rayamurari Jammugideva, Bijjaladeva and others. It appears that this grant was discontinued and was Renewed during the time of Singhanadeva.

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 1, Prabhava, Chaitra, su. 1, Sunday. The tithi corresponds to A. D. 1207, March 1. The weekday was, however, Thursday.

The inscription records a gift made by Sovaganda and Hamde gauda to Maseya- Nayaka.

Slab set up in the temple of Hanuman Singhana—A. D. 1208

This badly damaged record is dated Saka 113[1], Vibhava, Kartika, su. 13, Thursday. Taking the Saka year to be current, the details correspond to A. D. 1208, October 23, Thursday.

The inscription seems to record a gift of land to the temple of Achalesvara at Pada[ti]ganuru  entrusted to the acharya (name lost) of Svayambhu Kedaresvara at Vijayapura,  called Dakshina-Varnasi, when Kapiladeva-dandanayaka was governing Tarddavadi-nadu.

Slab in the village Chavadi Singhana—A. D. 1208-09

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year 10, Vibhava, corresponding to A.D. 1208-09.  Other details of the date are not specified.

The inscription records a gift of land made by mahamandalesvara Bommidevarasa of the Silara family to the temple of Hayimesvaradeva, constructed by him in the southern part of Virimgal.

front of Dandappa Gauda’s house Singhana—A. D. 1211

This badly damaged and effaced record is dated in Saka 1133, Prajapati, Kartika, Amavasya, Sunday, Samkramana, corresponding to A.D. 1211, November 6 Sunday f.d.t. 27

This inscription seems to record a gift (of land )made to the learned mahajanas of santheya    Ko[ra]vur, for the merit of a certain Bommarasa.

LAKSHMESVAR, SHIRHATTI TALUK, DHARWAR DISTRICT

Slab built into the wall of the Taluk Office Singhana—A. D. 1215

This damaged and worn out record is dated in the cyclic year Yuva, Ashadha, Anavasya, Monday, Pushya-nakshtra.  In the reign of  Singhana, Yuva fell in A.D. 1215  and in that year the tithi corresponded to June 28 which was a Sunday and not Monday.  Pushya-nakshatra coincided with the latter day.

The inscription records a gift of oil for burning a perpetual lamp in the temple of god[Kedara]deva, by the oil men of Purikaranagara.  It appears that Mayi-pandita was administrating Purikaranagara at the time as a subordinate of the king.

The writer of the inscription was a son of Rudrabhattopadhyaya.

Slab built into the front wall of the deserted Hanuman

temple in the old site of the village Singhana—A. D. 1215

This record is dated in the king’s regnal year, 16, Yuva, Bhadrapada, su Purnima, Wednesday, lunar eclipse, corresponding to A.D. 1215, September 9, Wednesday. There was an eclipse on that day.

The inscription records the renewal of a gift to the temple of Bhogesvara by Mahadevarasa and others, of Kumbitage. The acharya of the temple was Sovarsi.  The details of the gift are not specified.

GUDIGERI, SHIRHATTI TALUK, DHARWAR DISTRICT

Pillar in Kalmatha Singhana—A. D. 1217

This record is dated in the king’s year 7, [svara, Sravana, Amavasya, Thursday, Solar eclipse, corresponding to A. D. 1217, August 3, Thursday, f. d. t. 14. The eclipse occurred on the following day, I. E. Friday.

The inscription contains a praise of the Twelve (mahajanaas) and the Fifty Families of oil-men (Telligar-Aivattokkalu) of  Guligere and registers a gift of oil For burning a perpetual lamp to the temple of Kalrsvara. The gift was entrusted to Tejonidhideva, the acharya of the temple.

This damaged record is dated in the cyclic year Vishu, Pushya, su. Purnima, Thursday, regularly corresponding to A. D. 1221, December 30, Thursday.

The inscription seems to record a gift of land made by a certain Kada[na] [Va]sitara Nagadeva.

Hero-stone in front of the temple close to the village Chavdi Singhana—A. D. 1123

This record is dated in the king’s year 14, Svabhanu, Margasira., ba. Amavasya, Sunday. The details correspond to A. D. 1223, December 23, which was A Saturday, not Sunday and the tithi ended at.59 on that day.

The inscription records the death of a hero (name lost) probably of Huligere.

Pillar in the temple of Somesvara [Singhana] –A. D. 1124

The inscription is dated in the king’s regnal year 16, Tarana, Jyashtha, su. 5 Sunday. The date is irregular. The tithi corresponded to A. D. 1224, May 24, which Was Friday and not Sunday.

The inscription records a gift of certain taxes and provisions for the offerings To God Svayambhu Somanatha and the feeding of the ascetics by kaduva [Ma] hanta, the tax-officer (Sumkada Hegade) of Lakshmlpaladeva.

CHADCHAN, INDI TALUK, BIJAPUR DISTRICT

Fragment built into the village-gate Singhana—A. D. 1226-27

This fragmentary record is dated in Saka 1148, [Vyaya], be. Amavavya. Monday, Samkramana. The names of the month and the samkramana are lost. The Year given corresponds to A. D.1226-27.

Only a part of the prasasti of a subordinate (name lost) of the king is preserved in this inscription

 LAKSHMESVAR, SHIRHATTI TALUK, DHARWAR DISTRICT

Slab built to the wall of the Taluk District Singhana—A. D.1227

This record is dated Saka 11[49], Sarvajit, Kartika, su. Ashtami, Monday, Corresponding to A. D. 1227, October 18, Monday, on which day the commenced At. 93 and continued on the next day upto. 84.

The inscription records a gift of land and house-site, after purchase from Goggiyacharya (?), by Murujavideva, disciple of Kedaradeva for the srtkarya of the Gods Kedaradeva and Chikkesvaradeva, atPurikara-nagara and for the feeding of The ascetics, when Mallisetti was governing the Karnata-vishaya. It also records a Gift, made after purchase form Tikisetti, son of Bharatisetti, by the same MurujVideva to Jnanasoma-pandita, the acharya of the Somanathadeva temple for the Srikarya of god Kedaresvara.

KUNDGOL, KUNDGOL TALUK, DHARWAR DISTRICT

Slab in front of the Durga temple Singhana—A. D. 1240

This record  is dated in the king’s regnal year 32, Sarvari, Chaitra, ba. 11, Wednesday, corresponding to A. D. 1240, March 20, which was a Tuesday and not Wednesday. The tithi ended on that day at 92.

The inscription is in two parts. The first part, in Sanskrit language, records The gift of six nivartanas of land for the benefit of the temple of Durga at Kundamgula By Mallasarma, and of Basavana and grandson  of  Madhavarya, with the consent of The king’s minister Vasudeva. The record was composed by Vaijanatha.

The latter part of the inscription, written in Kannada language, apparently refers To the same gift mentioned above. The donor is called here Taliyara Mallayya. It also records a gift of oil made by the Fifty-Families (Aivattokkalu) of Kumdumgola, for burning a perpetual lamp in the same temple. The Thousand Mahajanas  of Kumdumgula were to protect the gifts.

BHATGUNKI, INDI TALUK, BIJAPUR DISTRICT

Slab built into the pial in front of the Hanuman temple Siaghana—A. D. 1240

This damaged record is dated in the year Sarvari, Jyeshtha su. Monday, Solar Eclipse. The Saka year is lost except the last digit which is 2. Sarvari correspond With  Saka 1162  but the existing details are irregular. The paksha given, viz., Suddha Is apparently wrong because of the mention of the solar eclipse. Again, in the month of Jyeshtha of the given year there was no eclipse at all. The tithi also is lost. In The previous month however, i. e. Nija-Vais’akha, both the lunar and solar eclipses Occurred on Monday, the 7th and Wednesday, the 23rd respectively in May, A. D. 1240. The intended date seems to be A. D. 1240, May 23.

The inscription mentions Mahapradhana, Senadhipati  Bommeyanayaka.
