Chikka-Nargunda, Naragund Petha, Dharwar District

Stone in the Basavanna temple

This damaged record belonging to the 17th century A.D. is dated in the cyclic year Rudhirodgari, Pushya ba. 14 and records a grant made to a certain Bullappa, by Basanna-nayaka, son of Bommanna-Nayaka of Narugunda.  The details of the grant are lost.

Kajri, Ranebennur Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone near the temple of Kallesvara.

This inscription is dated in the cyclic year Nandana, Magha, ba. 30, Monday solar eclipse.

The Saka year is not given.  The characters belong to about the17th century A.D.

It records that Hiriya-Viranna, the Mahaprabhu of Homnavati and others made a grant of land to Chaudappa, son of Samkapayya of Navile and belonging to Agastya gotra.

This fragmentary record registers a grant of land for the worship of a god (name lost).

Kanavalli, Haveri Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone built into the front wall of the temple of Nilakanthesvara

A.D. 1716

This inscription dated in Saka 1638, Durmukhi, Margasira su. 6, Sunday, registers a grant of land made by Bahadura Hanumanta-gauda, the Desayi of Guttala, at the time of the car-festival of mailaralinga.  The grant was made for the merit of the donor’s forefathers.  The details of the given date correspond to A.D. 1716, November 9, Friday (not Sunday as stated in the record)

Kuppelur, Ranebennur Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone near the Mathada hola

A.D. 1730

This inscription, the purport of which is not clear is dated in Saka 1652, Nala, Magha su. 14.  The date is wrong.  Saka 1652 coincided with the cyclic year Sadharana and the cyclic year Nala coincided with Saka 1658.  In these two years the given tithi corresponds to A.D. 1730, February 22, Thursday and A.D. 1737, February 3, Thursday, respectively.

At the top of this stone are engraved some indistinct letters and a certain marudeva seems to have been mentioned.

Stone set up in the Viraktamatha.

A.D. 1759

This inscription dated in Saka 1681, Pramathi, Jyestha ba. 10 corresponding to A.D. 1759 June 20.  Wednesday, records the foundation of the Virakta-matha of Huchcha-Chanavirappa, the charamurti (disciple?) of Huchcha-basavlingasvami.

Beam in the temple of Hanuman

A.D. 1763

This inscription which is in Nagari characters and Sankrit language records, the installation of god hanuman at Somapura by a certain Devaraya in Saka 1690 Sarvadhari, Vaisakha su. Trayodasi, Friday corresponding to A.D. 1768 April 29, Friday.

Kengonda, Haveri Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone in the garden to the east of the village

A.D. 1780

This record dated in Saka 1702, Sarvari, Vaisakha ba. 10 corresponding to may 28, Sunday (not verifiable), states that Bahadara Hanumantagauda, the Desayi of Guttalal bestowed the office of the Accountant (Sanubhovike) of kemgonda situated in the Mahal of Kaginele on a person (not named).  A naiar of 300 varahas was taken from him for granting the privilege.

StoneinKamatada Hola on the road to Kolur

This record in Nagari characters and Kannada language denotes the land granted by Bulapa-Desayi, to Subrahmanyacharya, son of Balacharya and grandson of Galgali Mudagallacharya.  It belongs to about the 18th century A.D.

Niralgi, Haveri Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone in the temple of Hanuman

The stone engraved in characters of about the 18th century A.D. is boundary stone called Vamanamudre-kallu.  It states that it marks the boundary of Gutalala.  The Desayi of Lakshmesara erected it.

Chandapur, Ranebennur Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone in front of the house of Hanumanta Gauda Patil

This record in characters of the 18th century A.D. states that a land at Chendapura was granted as Judimanya to Jakkanna son of Pujari Puttanna.  The grant was made by Bahadura Chikkapa-gauda, the Desayi of Guttala, at the request of the donee, under certain conditions (specified in the record)

The date of the record is the cyclic year Dhatri, Kartika su. 13, The Saka year is not given.

Stone lying on the tank bund about 2 miles from the village

This inscription in characters of about the 18-19th century A.D. is a boundary stone of the field which was the manya for the gaudike of Guttala, given to Desayi Hanumantagauda of Guttalal who belonged to Monabhargava-gotra Katyana-sutra and Sukla-Yajus-Sakha.

Agadi, Haveri Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone standing in S.No. 276

A.D. 1804

This inscription is dated in Saka 1726, Raktakshi, Adhika-Chitra su. 15, corresponding to A.d. 1804, March 26 Monday (not verifiable).  It records that Sivaraya Joyisa, son of Jayarama-Sastri and the Sadara-joyisa of Havanur was granted a piece of land by Bahadara Linganna-gauda grandson of Desayi Bahadara Lingappa-gauda of Guttala, for the beatitude of his ancestors.

Stone near the Kallumantapa

This inscription in Nagari characters of about the 19th century A.D.  mentions Dyavana-bhata (Devanna Bhatta) of maganageri belonging to Kaundinya-gotra, Katyayana-sutra and Sukla-Yajus-sakha.

Stone in the temple of Venkatesvara in the agrahara

This inscription written in characters of about the 19th century A.D., seems to record the installation of the (image) of god Srinivasa. The record is very indistinct and illegible.

Stone in front of the temple of Basavanna

This record in Nagari characters indicates the property of a certain Bhimacharya son of Katti Srinivasacharya.  The characters are of about the 19th century A.D.

Godhihal, Ranebennur Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone on Mathada-kana

This inscription, the date of which is lost, is engraved in late characters.  It states that the Vaishnava pontiff Satyabodha-Sripada-Odeya, disciple of Satyapriya-Sripada-Oedya, built a matha in the village Godihalu and placed it in charge of Kambalayya, son of Kondara Rudrappa.

Tumminakatti, Ranebennur Taluk, Dharwar District

Stone standing near the Hanuman temple

This damaged record in late characters is dated in Saka . . . 17,  Bhadrapada ba. 1[2].  The cyclic year also is lost. It records a grant of land to Vaishnava pontiff (name lost) for worship and offerings to god Ramachandradeva.  The river Tangabhadra is mentioned.

This inscription contains the syllables na and pra in different combinations which formed probably a mystic yantra
