INSCRIPTIONS COLLECTED DURING 1903 - 1904

Marathas of Tanjore

Sarfoji-Maharaja

 

No. 580.

(A. R. No. 535 of 1904).

Tiruvaur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District

On a slab built into the floor of the first prakara,

north of the Tyagaraja shrine in the Tyagarajasvamin temple.

Sarfoji-maharaja.  Saka 1639 : 1717 A.D.

This inscription mentions the king’s predecessor Sahji-maharaja and his predecessor Ekoji-maharaja.  The details of date given viz., Saka 1639, Kali 4818, Hevilambi, Chittirai 15, su. 13, Friday, Hasta, regularly correspond to 1717 A.D., April 12, Friday.

It records the renovation (ashtabandhanam) of the shrine of Mahasivalingam within the temple of god Tyagaraja-svamin Valmikanathasvamin, by Mahamandalesvara Saraposi (Sarfoji)-maharaja.

Tuljarajiraje Bhosle

No. 559.

(A. R. No. 516 of 1904).

Kivalur, Nagapattinam Taluk, Tanjore District

On the west wall of the prakara of the Akshayalingesvara temple.

Tuljarajiraje Bhosle.  S. 1697 – 1775 A.D.

This record in Marathi, written in Nagari, is dated in Saka 1697, Manmatha, Vaisakha 1 and states that the prakara was built by Rajesri- Tulja-rajiraje Bhosle Saheb.
